We had class on Monday, so we halted our work until then to get approvals from our teacher about the story we had planned on carrying out. Monday came around and we discussed the idea we had with our teacher and we came to an agreement that we weren’t pleased with it. The whole concept was a lot of work for 4 member and required a lot of environment building and foliage, so we decided to trash that concept as well and we started coming up with another story. The final concept we had and the one we stuck with is an arcade horror story, a little kid would be playing on an arcade and a monster would come out of the dark and eat them. We wanted to make the concept revolve around pac-man and making a more horrific version of him, but due to copyright reasons we had to come up with another monster and game to go with it. I put myself in charge of designing the little girl and the game monster we were going to use, my team member was in charge of taking the game character and converting it to a scary monster, and the other team members were in charge of environment design and gathering prop ideas. We were rather pleased with the idea and we were more motivated to carry it out, from the technical aspects the story didn’t seem to be too difficult to create, we were going with still-life so we were going to rig the characters and pose them for each frame, of course the models, textures, lighting and after effects had to be top tier for this to be a great project but we were willing to take the risk. The main idea was an 80s arcade look, because the neon lights would provide a great ambience and gloom, we planned on having a small amount of light sources to provide a more looming feeling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQsaPVfze4s the initial idea was the Tron legacy arcade scene when we were thinking of the abandoned arcade look, but the more we proceeded with the idea the stranger it became, as we were thinking about what a little girl would be doing in an abandoned arcade. Wednesday’s class was a continuation of last week’s class, the teacher was showing us how to use curve editor to fix our animations without having to add extra frames and ruin our timeline, I wasn’t able to make it to last week’s class but I still soaked in a lot of the information. I watched this fairly simple video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXtThw9QHiQ it’s a simple ball bounce animation but it helped me understand trajectories and how to use them. We started developing our monster, my teammate didn’t know how to approach the monster design so I took it upon myself to design it. I used a naked mole rat because it could perfectly be transformed into a cute and horrifying creature, it basically looks like a naked hamster. I made the mistake of asking my teammate to begin modelling the creature without consulting my teacher for advice first, and that resulted in us having to wait until the weekdays to get confirmation on the design. So all we did in the weekend was develop the story better and halted the character creation process, it was a bumpy weekend.
