MAJOR PROJECT PRODUCTION - week 5

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

we are 1 day away from week 6, with most of the shots key-framed and some of them fully approved, we began submitting our scenes to render. our establishment shot came out just fine, so we submitted another shot to render soon after.

I've had a bit of a dispute with my teammate over one of the shots, it is a shot where the girl, Lily, is riding on a trolley, which will then crash into the bar and would in return send the girl flying to the roof of the bar. there are several reasons this would never work, for one, the cart would never be going that fast, which in return would not hit the bar that hard. the second reason is that the physics don't work, the trolley hitting the bar would result in the girl being punted forwards, and not upwards, which is something that no animation should contain as it is simply nonsensical.

an example of the proper reaction would be a video of a car crash, i found a car crash test of a Suzuki car on youtube and i used it as reference for the trolley action, AutoShow. (2017, June 1). 2017 Suzuki Swift - Crash test [Video]. YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG6igO7YNeI time stamp 0:17 ,it clearly shows the line in which an object would be thrown at that direction of movement, but i had to compromise to please my teammate, so i had the girl fly upwards when the crash happened, i included the shot below.

even by explaining this to my teammate, she insisted that i went with that approach, as she said we were not following real-life physics. i feel very constricted with this project, it's like i don't have a say in what happens, which doesn't make this a group project for me, which is killing my motivation to finish this film.

away from the rants now, i was able to redo the trolley shot based on the feedback from both my teammate and my teacher, the shot is now key-framed and will be sent for approval. i did make a shot i'm happy with, which is the ending shot of the baby bud's reveal, here is a preview of the shot.

the shot is practically done, and is pending approval. but thankfully i got the key-frames approved in the first go, which is a bonus for me.

we had some extra frames planned for this week while the others are being rendered (and/or smoothed out) which are some of the events we cut out as they don't add any substance to the story, but are a nice garnish. one of the shots i am in charge of working on is where the guy wakes the girl up, which is a fun scene because i will get to play around with the blurring at the beginning.

as far as major events go, this is the end of that, the rest of the week went on just as i have written here, yes i had a lot of work, but it was all the same procedure, so i don't want to rant about it. next week however will be interesting, as we will probably get the first major shot to do post production on, as well as the other finalised animations done.
