MAJOR PROJECT - week 6

with week 6 beginning, we had a bunch of plans of what we wanted to compete, namely the animatic or at least a big chunk of it. we had a meeting with our instructor and we ended up getting some feedback for act 1 of the animatic. we were instructed to start modelling the hotel lobby and main hall as our instructor wants to see the animatic coupled with the final models of the rooms, so we got on with that. i was finishing up some fixes for the shots i got critique for and so i couldn't start the modelling process next week.

considering we are starting the modelling phase, i looked up some useful tutorials that i can depend on when i need some extra help. of course, not any tutorial was going to help out, as i have modelling down for the most part. one thing i needed to look up however was how to create a wicker basket texture, whether it was a model or a procedural material, and ended up with a great couple of videos. this video by the user "Arrimus 3D" on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r7jA6EAlg4 is a great tutorial on how to make a simple laundry basket using some modifiers in 3Dsmax. the tutorial has some good points on how to create a repetitive patter to form the basket out of, which will help because the environment we have is rustic and exotic, which means there will be a lot of handmade decor. this will also come in handy for the furniture as well, as it will ad some nice touches to the environment.

Arrimus has another tutorial on how to create a 3D wicker texture, this video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WE6BGd170Uw is a lower poly version, it does cover a more flat texture but it can be done in a rounder fashion as well. i might use a blend of both techniques to come up with some pot designs, maybe some chairs as well.

now...i'm fairly new to architecture modelling, all my projects have been focused on a single character and i was never actually in charge of making a full fledged room. i have been looking up some interior design artists that post some tips on how to approach interior 3D design and i have found a useful gem within my searches. Architecture Inspirations on Youtube has a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQSZKPS9Xrg that covers 7 mistakes that artists might come across while working on a room model, this video is great because it covers compositon, camera positions, lighting and texture sizing, which will be a great help for my future process in creating the hotel lobby. he has some great tips on how to fix those mistakes and how to avoid them completely, and shows some great examples of his work as well.

i have had the worst weekend as i had a bad headache from working on my PC too much, so i had to rest my eyes for a while, which is why this blog is a little late. but no worries, this won't happen again, my head is in the game and i am being extra careful as to not overwork myself!
